Father’s Day

18 Jun

Happy Day to you.  Hope you had an awesome time celebrating your Daddy’s day.

We made this simple, and I mean simple (cause I did it all by myself so you know it has to be pretty easy!) collage out of silhouettes for my husband/father to my four boys.

We were able to make it entirely from stuff we had on hand—another prerequisite for me to actually accomplish a craft project.  With my teaching background, time has helped me accumulate quite a few little craft supplies.  So, take heart, if you’re just starting out, over time you’ll have multiple paints, glues and doo-dads to make this and that for your kiddos or those you love.

So, I’ve had in my head and randomly on the many lists I make to make silhouettes of our guys.  I love the classic antiquey kind of look they have.  Plus, the black and white thing.  That’s a plus.  And then, We Are That Family showed how easy it could be, so I was sold.

Since Kristen does such a great job at the tutorial, there is no need for me to reinvent the wheel.  Check hers out.  I did the exact same things.  The only difference is, from iphoto I printed my pictures in 3×5 size instead of 8×10 because I wanted mine to be smaller for a collage frame.

The frame actually came from good will almost two years ago.  It was a natural wood color, and it had pictures of Pan Am planes in it from the eighties?  Go figure!  Anyways, I politely took those out and spray painted it black.  And two bucks later, had a nice collage frame waiting for my little silhouettes.  Then it sat in the corner for a few months, until yesterday!

The boys loved being able to help with this little project.  They posed well.  Even baby!

See what I mean!  It did take a few shots to get something not so blurry, but it doesn’t have to be perfect.  You’re just going to cut it out and flip it over to paint it.

Did I mention, you might need to be a little patient?

But, it really pays off.  Cause look!  I was so pleased.  I teared up a little.  Really, I did.

Believe me when I say, if I can do this, you can too!  Happy silhouetting!  This was probably one of the most rewarding small scale, affordable craft projects I have ever done.  Love.

If you decide you’re inspired, please come on back and let me see your handiwork, and your sweet little ones profiles!
